These are images of door openings taken directly from catalogs displaying room suites (living room, dining room, bedroom, etc.). The images of the door openings are scanned and the view through the door to the outside is isolated and brought into the frontal perspective of the viewer. This correcting for perspective is the only manipulation of the original image. The dimensions of each photograph corresponds to the actual size of the door in the catalog.
The doors in the catalogs are almost always open, and present views of idyllic suburban country landscapes. The views articulate a private space relative to public space by means of a fence or patio. The open door is an invitation: a retreat and an escape.
